Trump Intervenes During Shutdown So Coast Guard Gets Payed

President Donald Trump personally ensured that despite a government shutdown that began December 22nd due to democrat inaction on the border wall America’s security will not be impacted by authorizing an emergency payment to Coast Guard members on New Years Eve.

Trump intervened on Wednesday, instructing his administrations lawyers and staffers to ensure the Coast Guard would be able to make its $75 million dollar payroll despite being part of the 25% of the government included in the shutdown. While the Department of Homeland Security, which houses the Coast Guard is shutdown the Department of Defense is not because Congress approved their appropriations before the shutdown.

The President also was able to deliver a payroll check to furloughed federal employees for time worked up to the shutdown, with an administration official saying “President Trump is trying to make the shutdown as painless as possible for workers, and this case proved it.” Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Charles Ray added, “This is outstanding news for our military workforce.”
